Bold Interior Decorating — Alresford

Not every client wants neutral walls and safe colours. The owners of this large Alresford home knew exactly what they wanted — strong, confident colours used throughout, with all woodwork and doors finished to match. OA delivered a full interior repaint that does justice to both the property and the scheme.

The living room

The main reception room is the standout space. The walls are painted in a deep charcoal-brown, with the dado rail, skirting and door architrave in white — a contrast that makes the original features pop rather than disappear. The fireplace surround is painted in a bold cobalt blue, tying it to the matching bureau beside it. It’s a deliberate, well-considered scheme, and pulling it off requires clean edges, consistent coverage and a steady hand. The result is exactly what the room needed.

Hallway and landing

The hallway runs the full depth of the house and has real presence — high ceilings, an arched opening and pendant lights that draw the eye down the corridor. The lower walls are painted in a strong navy blue, with a softer grey-blue above the dado rail and carrying through to the ceiling. The combination gives the hallway warmth and depth without feeling dark. The white woodwork throughout — doors, frames, skirting and the staircase balustrade — keeps everything clean and well-defined.

Staircase and upper floor

The staircase balustrade was painted in white gloss — the turned spindles and handrail finished with the kind of care that shows up clearly in the photos. Above the dado on the staircase wall, the soft blue-grey continues upward, keeping the transition between floors consistent.

Bedroom and fitted wardrobes

In one of the bedrooms, the walls were painted in a warm olive green, with the fitted wardrobes painted to match rather than standing out as a separate element. Painting joinery in the same tone as the walls is a small decision that makes a big difference — the room reads as a whole rather than a collection of separate parts.

Colour with confidence

This project shows what’s possible when a client has a clear vision and a decorator who can execute it properly. Bold colours only work when the prep is right, the edges are sharp and the finish is even. That’s what OA brings to every job — the technical skill to make ambitious choices look exactly as intended.
