This large period property near Alresford needed a full refresh — walls, ceilings and all woodwork inside, plus the exterior windows, doors and timber. The owners wanted a calm, considered result that suited the character of the house. OA handled everything from initial prep through to the final coat.
Preparation and plastering
The before images show the living room mid-work — surfaces stripped back, walls patched and skimmed before any colour went on. This kind of thorough prep is what the job needed. On a property of this age, cutting corners at the preparation stage would show up later, so every surface was properly prepared and skimmed before decorating began.
Interior decorating
Inside, the house covers a lot of ground — from the formal reception room with its original panelling and stone fireplace to the vaulted garden room with exposed oak trusses and arched windows. Each space needed a slightly different approach, but the palette ties everything together: a warm grey throughout the main rooms, lighter tones in the upper floor rooms and landings.
The staircase is a standout. The original turned balusters and carved string detail were all painted in white gloss — a meticulous job that rewards a close look. The view looking straight up through the stairwell gives a clear picture of the scale and quality of the property.
Exterior decorating
The exterior work covered all window frames, the front door and surrounding timber across this substantial two-storey brick farmhouse. Working at height on a property this size takes time to do properly, and the finished result — clean white frames against the warm brick — makes a real difference to the kerb appeal.
