Large Country House Decorating — Salisbury
This was one of the largest projects OA has completed — a substantial country property near Salisbury spanning multiple buildings and a wide range of room types, from a soaring vaulted reception hall to formal bedrooms, a family bathroom and interconnecting hallways. The scope covered carpentry, feature wallpaper and full decorating throughout.
A property with real character
The before images show the scale of the job — a long-established country home with exposed oak beams, stone floors, original staircases and high ceilings. The rooms had a lot going for them, but needed refreshing. The decorating had to work alongside the existing features, not fight them.
The after images tell the story clearly. The large reception room, with its full-height vaulted ceiling and king post oak truss, was painted in a warm sage green throughout — walls and the angled ceiling — giving the space a cohesive, considered look that lets the structure speak for itself.
Doors, frames and carpentry
New doors were fitted and finished across the property, along with frames and skirting boards. The four-panel doors in the formal rooms were painted in crisp white gloss, with the surrounding architrave and window frames finished to match. The detail shot shows the quality of the finish — clean lines, no gaps, no uneven edges. This is the kind of work that only looks simple when it’s done well.
Feature wallpaper — walls and ceiling
The staircase and hallway received a paisley-print wallpaper, hung across both the walls and the ceiling of the stairwell. Papering a ceiling is a skilled job at the best of times; doing it in a stairwell with angles and limited access requires real care. The scalloped edge detail on the painted staircase balustrade — finished in a soft blue-grey — sits well alongside the wallpaper and gives the whole area a distinctive, personal quality.

Across the property, OA decorated every room — walls, ceilings, woodwork and the large pieces of furniture the client had painted to match the scheme. The result is a home that feels refreshed and well looked after, while keeping everything that makes it distinctive in the first place.
