Wall Panelling & Feature Wallpaper — Winchester
This project focused on the staircase, hallway and landing of a large Winchester home. The brief was to add character and a sense of quality to what had been fairly plain spaces. OA installed wall panelling and hung a feature wallpaper — combining carpentry and decorating to give the whole area a completely different feel.
The before
The before image shows the staircase stripped back and ready for work — bare walls with surface damage visible, dust sheets down. It’s not a glamorous starting point, but it’s the right one. Proper preparation is what gives a finished result like this its longevity.
Wall panelling
Dado-height panelling was installed along the staircase and up onto the landing. The panels are cleanly made with neat moulded frames, all painted in white. It gives the space a more considered, architectural quality — the kind of detail that tends to be the first thing visitors notice when they walk in.
Feature wallpaper
Above the panelling, a botanical animal-print wallpaper was hung across the staircase walls and landing. The pattern is detailed and the scale is generous — exactly the kind of wallpaper that needs to be hung carefully to look right. Matching the repeat correctly at the angles and corners of a staircase is a skilled job, and the result here is spot on.
The combination of white panelling below and patterned wallpaper above works well in this space. The panelling keeps the lower half clean and practical, while the wallpaper gives the upper walls real character without feeling busy.
Decorating
All woodwork, frames and ceilings were decorated as part of the job. The overall finish is crisp and well-executed — exactly what a home of this quality requires.
